About Mini Moos

Mini Moos is a series of bridge sessions run on Sunday afternoons for beginners in the Waikato region. Each session is a stand-alone event. Sessions are run either as pairs or as individuals.
Players are asked to be arrive by 12:50pm so play can start at 1pm. There is always ample time to play the hands, with typically 12 boards being played during the session. Players are allowed to refer to their notes or “phone a friend” for assistance at any stage of the game. A commentary and copy of the hands is on the back of each board played and time is given to allow players to consider that commentary and examine the hands played, discuss them and replay them if they wish. There is a refreshment break at halftime and play ends around 4.30pm with a short prizegiving.
Although the scores are collated the competitive aspect is insignificant compared to the instructive aspect and just having fun playing amongst players from other clubs.
This series is aimed primarily at beginners who have taken lessons in the current year. Although anyone below “Certificate of Proficiency” level is eligible, players with more than a year’s experience may find the pace very slow.
A "Moos Noos" Newsletter is sent out after each round with a roundup of the day's play and items of interest to novice players with a write up also placed on the Tokoroa and Putaruru website which allows us space for this purpose.
The final session of the year is in the form of a Garden Party playing outside (weather permitting) with Pimms and strawberries being served.
MOOS MISSION: To provide a relaxed supportive environment where beginners from lessons can play bridge with players of their own level.
