SUCCESS AT ROTORUA CHARITY TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to Eileen Barker and Rosemary Ward coming top in the afternoon session at the Rotorua Charity Tournament on Wednesday. Also Putaruru's Eva Wadey and Dora Davies, currently on a roll of good form, came third in the afternoon session. Meanwhile Tokoroa's Katie Mole with partner Max Burne came third in the morning session. Sadly there seems to have been a gremlin in the scoring and the full results are not on display but we have it on good authority that Eileen and Rosemary finished 6th overall.

15 TABLES AT PUTARURU OPEN TOURNAMENT

TOP PUTARURU PAIRTOP PUTARURU PAIR
Taking top slot for the home side were Eva Wadey and Dora Davies. In an open field these two intermediates battled bravely for a finish above halfway in the field and an over 50% average. Congratulations to them both. The winners were Susan Hardy and Margaret Hodgson from Rotorua. The event was scored using Bridgemates and the detailed analysis of the boards can be found on the results page.

NEW BRIDGE LIBRARY AT PUTARURU

Many thanks to Joyce Catchpole from Matamata and Wayne Benefield at Auckland Bridge Club. They have donated books to start a library at Putaruru. Marjorie has taken on the task of setting it up. You should soon find a lovely selection of books to choose from to inspire and raise your game! Thanks to Marjorie for stepping forward to organise this. We hope to have it on show in time for the Putaruru Open tournament.

VERA AND SANDY SHINE IN WAP AFTERNOON

With 36 pairs competing in Heat 3 of the WAPs series it was great to see two Tokoroa pairs taking part. The afternoon session saw Vera and Sandy come second in their section with 58%. Well done also to Graeme and Willy for entering the shark pool and coming out with over 50% in their second session.

MAGNIFICENT RECRUITMENT DRIVE FOR LESSONS

Applauding the efforts of both clubs. I have over 20 students so far registered for bridge lessons starting next week. So really well done in finding new people to introduce to our marvellous game. I will be encouraging all the students to join their home club following lessons and to play bridge at both clubs to hone their skills and get really stuck into their bridge. They come almost equally from both clubs. Still hoping for the South Waikato Times to come to the party and hopefully publish something next Wednesday.

Billets/Meals Needed for Jane

As you know Jane Stearns is travelling from Cambridge each week for the next 14 weeks to take lessons at both clubs as well as running the Nesting Pairs improvers course at Putaruru fortnightly during that period. Rather than travelling to and from Cambridge two days in a row she will be staying with us on Tuesdays, returning home on the Wednesdays after the lesson in Tokoroa.

WELCOME TO BRIDGE LESSONS

A warm welcome to our 24 intrepid beginners who are attending lessons Tuesday evening in Putaruru and Wednesday morning in Tokoroa. Full details of the course, homework answers and upcoming lessons are on the Education tab above, under Beginners.

NESTING PAIRS - REGISTER NOW TO RAISE YOUR GAME IN 2015

Jane will be running her Bridge-It Jane's Nesting Pairs Course at the Putaruru Club from April to July. A fortnightly, one-hour seminar, one-hour practice series of seven is designed to promote partnership understanding and tournament success.

Richard Solomon Slammer Seminars ...Sunday 14th June

Cambridge Bridge Club is offering an innovative seminar for OPEN players wanting to develop their game. It is innovative because they are limiting it to six tables / 24 players and it is being targeted at open players still wanting to develop their game, for whom they believe there are fewer learning opportunities available in smaller clubs that mainly comprise junior and intermediate players. Cambridge are asking that players enter as a partnership so that learning can be put into practice afterwards.
